about

FROM Darol and Emy's new recording, TREASURES, available at CDBaby.com, and at darolanger.com.
The Old Carpenter's Waltz has a history with Darol: he learned it from the amazing Ann Savoy, and originally recorded it with the great Cajun fiddler Ed Poulard. Emy & Darol spent some time at the Swannanoa Gathering with Michael Doucet, who roughed out a set of lyrics on the chorus, and Darol & Emy wrote a whole novel's worth of verses--some in French!-- to flesh out the story of an autumn romance revived from an brief youthful fling. We recorded it with Emy's son Jake playing drums, and Aidan O'Donnell on bass. The harmony vocals were belted out by Isabella Burke and Ellie Buckland of the great new group Lula Wiles, and Darol also contributes a twangy mando-cello solo and a veritable Cajun Choir of wild fiddles screamin' away.

lyrics

Do you remember our romance, when we met so many years ago... when a boy and a girl carved a heart on a tree? Do you remember, my dear... our parting so many tears ago... when we danced a last dance, and we set ourselves free?
