about

This album contains no actual fiddle content!
This recording does contain drones of 2 tonics an octave apart and a fifth, in just intonation. Each sequence lasts roughly six minutes and the CD plays through all the keys in order (the circle of 4ths, starting from C).

This technique of playing over a drone has been used in Indian classical music for hundreds of years, One can practice single notes, scales, exercises, double stops, difficult passages in odd keys, or fiddle tunes to these drones; or you can just play and improvise freely and wander among the many-layered intonations of your mind and body.

Suggested: investigate playing or singing major and minor thirds (high and low) and fifths (high and low). Take your time.

Alert: Loading these drones onto your phone, music device, or (gasp) a CD or cassette may inspire addictive behavior and lots & lots of practicing.
