about

This track came about in response to an invitation from Matt Smith of Club Passim in Cambridge, MA. We were invited to bring one or two songs to a Leonard Cohen night, with other Boston-area musicians, shortly after the great songwriter passed on in 2017. We quickly worked up an arrangement of perhaps his most famous song. Cohen was famous for writing many alternate verses to all of his songs, and we were able to research some variations which shed more light on the story. Emy's interpretation is magisterial and takes the song to another level. I was able to use my Fuzz-Octave Mando-Uke And the octave mandolin, with some additional electronic gizmos, and Rockin' Furies percussionist Jacob Ransom drove the bus.

lyrics

Like a worm on a hook, like a monk bent over his book, it was the shape of our love twisting me.
